The choice of tires can significantly enhance your driving experience, particularly in electric vehicles which tend to be heavier and deliver more torque than traditional cars. This increased weight and torque consequently place additional demands on the tires.

Choosing the right tires for electric vehicles can be challenging due to the multitude of available options. Reliability is key, just like the vehicle itself. Fortunately, resources such as Consumer Reports simplify this choice with their extensive testing and analysis. Their latest findings indicate that Hankook stands out as a favorite, with their iON evo AS tires receiving top marks for electric car usage.

Consumer Reports determined this ranking through a variety of tests assessing aspects such as braking performance in wet and dry conditions, handling, traction in both winter and wet weather, ride comfort, tread longevity, and noise levels. The iON evo AS excelled in many of these metrics, outperforming its rivals.

Other Top-Ranked EV Tires According to Consumer Reports

The findings from Consumer Reports regarding EV tires were somewhat expected, as Hankook consistently ranks highly among leading tire brands. The brand has become a favorite among Consumer Reports experts, outpacing well-known names like Goodyear in overall quality. Besides the iON evo AS, another Hankook tire, the Ventus S1 AS TO, is also noted for its excellent performance in the EV category.

Both tire models scored impressively in the EV Efficiency category, with the Ventus S2 AS TO taking the lead, while the iON evo AS followed closely. Nonetheless, it’s important to note that despite its efficiency score, the Ventus S2 AS TO faced some criticism for performance during hydroplaning, a consideration for potential buyers.

Interestingly, while Hankook led in the first two categories of the CR tire ratings, it was absent from the winter tire rankings. Consumer Reports highlighted the Bridgestone Turanza EV as the top performer for cold weather conditions. Additionally, Pirelli’s PZero All Season Plus Elect received the Smart Alternative accolade in the same category.
